Summary | Blockchain is an advanced database, a type of distributed, collaboratively maintained, and secure ledger or database regarded as the next generation of the internet (WEB 3.0). The three primary characteristics of the blockchain are its decentralized nature, its openness and transparency and ease of tracking, and data that is difficult to tamper with. Currently, its most prevalent applications are in the transportation industry, banking and finance, insurance, virtual (or encrypted) currency, medical and healthcare industries, etc. Logistics, aviation, shipping, and hotel industries are included in terms of transportation applications. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the possibility of implementing block chain technology in the operational management of the bus industry. In addition to assisting highway competent authorities and transportation operators in resolving business management issues, it is hoped that block chain technology will enhance the supervisory performance of highway competent authorities and the operational efficiency of the transportation industry, achieving the goal of assisting organizations with digital transformation. Given that the bus industry has encountered the issue of “centralization” in operational management (transportation control and third-party platforms), operators have reported data “information security” and “trust issues” as well as the need for “digital transportation” and other issues. Therefore, block chain technology must be implemented to aid in problem resolution. Nevertheless, the application of block chain technology in the transportation sector is still in its infancy. During importation, transportation operators are still faced with a number of unresolved bottlenecks (including the five bottlenecks of blockchain technology itself, three mountains, five obstacles posed by transportation operators, three obstacles, etc.). During this transitional period, it is recommended that highway competent authorities or transportation operators select suitable plans (MOTC’s “Shared Rides Plan” and the Institution of Transportation’s “Pilot Operational Project for Advanced Bus Intelligent Operational Management”) to conduct case studies or pilot plans. When block technology reaches the stage of mature application through the accumulation of implementation experience, block chain technology will be introduced for widespread use in the transportation industry to resolve business management issues. It is anticipated that the supervisory performance of the highway competent authority and the business management efficiency of the transportation industry will be enhanced, thereby achieving the objective of digital transformation. |
