Summary The purpose of this project is to develop an integrated system for improving transit safety. The four major tasks in this research are: (1) enhancements of the software and hardware developed in the Phase I project, (2) development of an integrated power supply system, (3) discussion of relevant procurement and maintenance issues, and (4) evaluation of system performance.

The enhancements of this integrated transit safety system focus on the developments of fuel consumption analysis, speeding analysis, driver behavior analysis, and working hour analysis. This project also modifies the database manipulation mechanism to Structured Query Language. The functions developed in this project are added to the core modules of fleet management systems for public transportation.

The integrated power supply platform provides stable, reliable, and diversified power to devices installed in vehicles. This platform also plays the role of data sharing and transmitting. Two prototypes are developed and tested in this project.

Issues on procurement and maintenance operations of relevant devices are discussed in this project. It also suggests the most suitable way to recover the cost of installing devices related to transit safety. Finally, we install the integrated system on an operation bus to evaluate the performance of the integrated transit safety system.
