Summary This project is conducted under the Improvement Program for Traffic Order and Safety (Jiao-Yun 31101), in response to a decree issued by the Executive Yuan in 2012. Through statistics analysis of accident data (A1 and A2 types) in 2014, in the Taiwan area, this study identifies the accident-prone locations throughout the Taiwan area. To have a better understanding of those locations, study teams were organized around 20 accident-prone locations spread across all counties. The team members included officers from the Road Traffic Safety Commission, the Institute of Transportation, the Highway Bureau, the National Police Administration, the Transportation Bureau, and police departments and engineering offices of local governments. Based on in-depth discussions among the team members, this project proposes an improvement plan for each accident-prone location. This year, a total of 81 accident-prone locations have been identified. The total cost to improve those locations is NT$26,910,360, and the average cost to improve a location is approximately NT$332,277.
