Summary | According to the results of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the impact of climate change on human society has been increasing and cannot be ignored. In response to potential impacts from climate change, this project took two years (2014-2015) to complete the plan of “Investigation of a Climate Change Risk Assessment Mechanism and Adaptation Information Platform for Major Highway-Railway Systems”.
In 2014, we aimed to perform the following tasks: (a) To complete the risk assessment of climate change impacts on our major rail and road system as well as creating a risk map; point out rail and road system’s risk hotspots and analysis their risks under different climate scenarios, as well as contributing risk factors. (b) Construct a climate change adaptation information platform for major highway-railway construction. The platform contains the databases of the Adaptation plan, the project area of risk assessment, and domestic and international internet related links, and norms and tools. The platform also offers a GIS research function for risk assessment results, for use by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications R.O.C. and highway-railway authorities. (c) Investigate suitable major highway-railway construction risk management mechanisms in relation to climate change, and use case studies in risk hotspots. This project may serve as a reference for the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and highwayrailway authorities regarding conducting climate change risk assessments and operating the risk management mechanisms in the future. |
