| Summary | In recent years, the rail freight of Taiwan Rail Administration (TRA) has maintained a steady income; however, a decline is predicted in its long-term development. Furthermore, the policy for reforming rail stations into underground or elevated stations forces many freight terminals to be removed or to cease operation. The development for rail freight in Taiwan does not seem optimistic.
The increasing trend of green transportation development might create a new opportunity for developing the rail freight industry in Taiwan. This study will review the current situation, related policies or strategies, and future development trends for rail freight in other countries; then, from the above research, some suggestions for TRA will be proposed in the conclusion. |
