Title | Highway Travel Time Information and Management System Planning (1/4) – Focusing on Freeway and Preliminary Study of Modeling |
Dept | Transportation Technology and Information Division |
Year | 2004 |
Summary |
Published in June 2004 The national highway network in Taiwan is nearly complete and travelers use highway more than other types of transportation system. Therefore, it could improve the accuracy of transportation demand forecast, consolidate the transportation projects, and enhance transportation system efficiency if accurate travel information, such as route guidance, diversion information, traffic conditions, and travel-time estimation, is provided. This project had collected related factors that effect freeway travel time through analyzing data collected from vehicle detectors. These factors may include highway infrastructure, road geometries, traffic flow, weather, and incidents. An information and management program will be established to provide useful data for professional analysis, so that travelers can utilize the information to support making their travel decisions. This project includes collection of basic road data and information. It consists of three major tasks. The first major task is the development of highway travel time estimation model. The second one is to establish the information system in terms of road traffic condition. The third one is the study of information display system. The major contents of this study are summarized in the following:
The executing duration of this project is from March 2003 to October 2006. The major study focused on freeway in 2003. The consecutive study of travel time estimation model and information display system will be completed in the end of 2005. The major study subjects include provincial highway(and expressway), country highway and the alternative route of national highway. The study of system integration and model verification will be completed in the end of 2006. |
