| Summary | With the tendency of an aging population, the design of a domestic communications and transportation system needs to consider the diverse characteristics of the population. Therefore, the principles of universal design should be adapted in public transport. Based on the research findings from “Application of Universal Design For Transportation Environment Improvement” in 2009, this research is further to setup the evaluating index and system of universal design for domestic public transport. Besides setting up the index of universal design for road environment, vehicles, and public transport station facilities, this research is also evaluating the adaptability of the index and system of universal design, using the example of evaluating the universal design of station facilities of Taipei Main Station and Banciao Station. In order to enhance the application value of a universal design index for station facilities, this research combines the concept of database management, to construct a database prototype targeted at public transport station facilities. The content of the database includes “applicable population attributes”, “space attributes”, and “function attributes”. In the future, when the integrated application is needed, this database can be used as a reference for evaluating the design and improvement of station facilities, and even as a design base to develop the personalized guiding device. |
