Summary | There are two different market forms in the taxi industry. Type I can be defined as the cruising/ ranking market and Type II can be defined as the dispatching market . The Type I market has the characteristics of perfect competition because individual drivers are less willing to cut fares to compete with others. The Type II market has the characteristics of oligopoly because the decisions of one firm can influence, and can also be influenced by, the decisions of other firms . In the combined market, Type II operators have the advantage of competition, and also provide customers better service. The authority may encourage taxi drivers to join a dispatching fleet to provide customers with better service quality. The taxi industry has a lot of differences among different cities in Taiwan regarding operational structure, the consumer market and operating strategy. Also, the development of public transportation is different city by city. It impacts the taxi operating environment directly, so it is suggested to delegate authority to the local government. The local government should make some rules to manage the local taxi industry. This research introduces 13 action plans corresponding to 4 strategies. It is expected that the deployment of these action plans can create a better operating environment in the taxi industry in the future. |
