Summary     Hualien Harbor faces the vast Pacific Ocean to the east. The harbor is often affected by long waves (swells), causing ships to leave the harbor . Institute of Transportation, MOTC set up an Acoustic Waves and Currents (AWAC) outside Hualien Harbor to collect wave observation data in 2000; Since 2020, real-time wave observation stations have been set up at pier 9, pier 17 and pier 25 in Hualien Harbor to collect wave observation data within the harbor. Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd. observe the wave heights in the outer and inner harbor and control ships entering and leaving the Hualien Harbor.
This project takes Hualien Harbor as the research scope.Using back-propagation neural network and through the training, verification and testing phases to build the artificial neural networks for pier 9, pier 17 and pier 25 of Hualien Harbor to become wave height forecasting models. To provide wave height prediction information for the outer and inner harbor area, and maintain the "Hualien Harbor Area Stability Display Page"websites that integrates observation and simulation of sea and meteorological information and in-harbor static and steady observation information. By simple, easy-to-understand and customized webpages were designed to supharbor Hualien Harbor in the decision in response to disaster and vessel access management.
