Summary | Published in March 2004 IOT SERIAL No., 93-30-779, 204pp. To catch up with the international technology development and to improve domestic design and research standard, this study focused on the performance-based seismic design method of port structures. The purpose of performance-based design is to ensure the plan, design, evaluation, construction and maintenance of engineered facilities of which performance under common and extreme earthquake ground motions would match the diverse needs and objectives (service, operation, safety, economy, cultural and historical impact) of the owners, users and society. In this study, the fundamental methodology, design framework and related subjects of performance-based seismic design were first introduced. The seismic force level and parameters or functions for characterizing the earthquake motion were described. Both qualification and quantification (the acceptance criteria of performance parameters) of performance level were investigated and the performance objectives were established. In order to apply the capacity-spectrum method to evaluate the inelastic displacement of the pile-deck system, the demand curve in terms of response spectrum and the capacity curve obtained by non-linear static pushover analysis were discussed. Analysis methods varying from simplified to complicated were investigated. Finally, conclusions were drawn and suggestions for further studies were made. |
