Summary       Both the hydraulics and sediment transport and the geomorphic variation near the Danshui River mouth are explored in this study. The river bed in the river mouth is in aggradation during last two decades (1996 – 2014) and the ratio of reduction of cross-sectional area exceeding 7% within years 2008– 2014.Dredging operations may be required by meeting the requirement of both environmental and ecological concerns. The suspended sediment concentrations reach 0.5 g/L and 1.7- 4.2 g/L for dry seasons and typhoon seasons, respectively. Sediment discharges from Shihmen Reservoir may cause temporarily deposition of fine sediments in the river mouth. Type of underwater sand dunes to Van Rijn (1984) analysis method, and the dune migration distance is estimated. The U-shaped terrain surrounded by North breakwater, coast beaches and sandbars is likely to form a strong oscillation by incident wave. Periods of such oscillation are from 16 minutes to 4 hours, and oscillations are confined to bed about 50cm range.
