Summary Developing a green transportation system helps to conserve energy and reduce the GHG emissions of the transport sector as well as carrying out the vision of sustainable transport. However the public does not understand what a green transportation system is. It is necessary to build up a website system to provide the green transportation system knowledge to the public, especially to schoolchildren. Through browsing this website, the public and schoolchildren will be led to learn what green transportation is
this is the basic goal of this website. The advanced goals of this website are to increase the use of the green transportation system, slowing down the growing usage of cars and motorcycles, decreasing the dependency of transportation sectors on fuel, and reducing the fuel consumption and emissions.

This research is a two-year project to provide the public and schoolchildren with information on the green transportation system, and to gather information and exchange opinions. By means of this educational website, it is expected that the public will be more supportive of promoting the green transportation system and projects regarding the green transportation system. In the first year of this research, the research team developed the framework of this educational website on the green transportation system by collecting information and exchanging opinions with professionals. In the second year of this research, the research team finished all the established works of “the Green Transportation Website”, and held some promotional activities such as news releases, blog marketing, a drawing contest, and a joint campaign on car-free-day.

Since the website was announced to be online on July 30, 2008, the number of browsers has exceeded 10,000 hits to date. Meanwhile, through a series of promotions and activities, the concept and importance of “Green Transportation” were effectively communicated to the general public in addition to reducing carbon in transportation, the hottest fad. One of the highlights of the events was the “Green Transportation Drawing Contest” in which grade-school children used their imagination and crayons or brushes to illustrate their concept of “Green Transport”. The school-kids, while having a lot of fun during the process, are sure to serve as great ambassadors of the “Green Transport” cause in their days to come. Another important event was the participation of the 2008 Taipei-Car-Free-Day activities, which rose people to echo green transportation.

Summing up, the project successfully drew the public attention of the green transport by holding some promotional and marketing activities such as news releases, blog marketing, a drawing contest, and a joint campaign on car-free-day. The concept of the green transportation has spread broadly, which has set up the ground work for further projects. The experiences of promoting green transportation by planning, building, maintaining a website as well as holding series of “Policy Campaigns” could be a reference for the public sector to propagate public issues.
