Ports of Taichung, Pudai, Anpeng, and Tapeng Bay are located in the west-southern coast of Taiwan. The soil deposit at these areas is of recent alluvium, in which soils are generally loose, soft and underconsolidated.

Thus, observation wells with depth of 200m to monitor subsidence and groundwater pressure were set up in these areas. These monitoring results of in-situ conditions were proposed to serve as references for design and construction at harbor and marine areas. According to the monitoring results, the accumulative subsidence of Tapeng Bay is 8cm in recent 4 years and 8 months, and the average subsidence is about 2cm per year. The accumulative subsidence of the port of Anpeng is 7.6cm in recent 3 years and 4 months. The accumulative subsidence of the port of Pudai is 26.5cm in recent 5 years and 8 months, and the average subsidence is about 5cm pear year. The accumulative subsidence of the Port of Taichung is 5.2cm in recent 3 years and 4 months.
