Summary	Integrated transportation planning forms the primary basis for government decision-making on transport policy and infrastructure development projects. This study is a follow-up from the Third Taiwan Area Integrated Transportation Systems Planning related projects- traffic surveys and travel characteristics analyses, travel demand model calibration, travel demand forecast, etc. completed from 1993 to 1998 by the Institute of Transportation (IOT) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The objectives of this project are to review the effectiveness of transport policy and the function of various transport systems based on travel demand forecast in the Taiwan Area. This study provides basis and references for future transportation development plans in Taiwan Area. The scope of this project includes both passenger and freight transportation. It encompasses international, inter-island, inter-city, and urban area transport systems and analyzes by each mode (i.e., highway, railway, aviation, and marine transport) system. There are 3 volumes of preliminary reports published for this study.
