Summary Based on the licensing age limit for taxi drivers among several countries, safety analysis on domestic taxi drivers, and the current licensing mechanism for professional drivers over 60 years of age, we propose that lifting the age limit of 65 for taxi drivers may be feasible in this study. The main reasons are not just that only we have a stricter age limit of 65 compared with several advanced countries (70) that also impose a licensing age limit, but also the accident risk for domestic taxi drivers over 65 years of age have no extra accident risk compared with their younger counterparts, and in addition, the current licensing mechanism for professional drivers over 60 years of age have just been revised in 2006. However, to control the accident risk among taxi drivers over 65, we suggest that the age limit be extended to 68 years of age in a short-term period and suitable countermeasures be applied.
