Summary | Published in January 2004 IOT SERIAL NO. 93-5-3252, 520 pp. Flight fatigue is one of the major factors that contribute to aviation accidents. While it has been an important research topic in the world-wide aviation society, there is little research related to quantitative measures of flight fatigue in Taiwan. The present research takes a lead in this area and intends to develop a mathematical model to investigate flight fatigue. The researchers reviewed a lot of research conducted in the USA and other countries and interviewed experts from the industry, governments, and academic institutes. These provide the fundamentals for the research team to develop questionnaires to survey pilots of scheduled airlines and helicopters. The survey data are used to estimate fatigue models with respect to pilots of oceanic routes, regional routes, and domestic routes. Finally, fatigue countermeasures for flight crewmembers, airlines, governments, and aircraft manufacturers are proposed based on the qualitative and quantitative research. |
