Summary | In recent years, the Taiwan government has made great efforts to plan and promote various projects related to railway systems. However, the construction of railway systems requires enormous capital expenditure. In order to ensure that the transportation capacity of these railway systems meets expected service quality in a cost-effective manner, systematic analysis methods and tools for rail capacity are essential. Thus, the Institute of Transportation (IOT) has been undertaking a series of research projects since 2003. The results of these projects are compiled into the Taiwan Railway Capacity Manual.
This manual consists of three parts: "Foundations of Railway Capacity", "Analysis of Conventional and Regional Railway Capacity", and "Analysis of Urban Railway Capacity". “Foundations of Railway Capacity” describes the fundamental concepts of rail capacity analysis. “Analysis of Conventional and Regional Railway Capacity” and “Analysis of Urban Railway Capacity” introduce the methodologies of capacity analysis and the usages of capacity software for these two types of railways. Each section contains several examples of how the analysis methods and tools can be applied. In the future, the IOT will continue to conduct research related to rail capacity, so as to enrich the Taiwan Railway Capacity Manual and provide it as a reference for relevant agencies. |
