| Summary | This study is implemented in compliance with the "Program for Promoting the Development of Public Transportation", which was approved by Executive Yuan in 1995. The purposes of this study are aim to improve the operational efficiency of intercity-bus transportation, to mitigate the conflict between intercity-bus traffic and urban traffic, to upgrade the operational performance of the intercity-bus terminals, to attract more people to use intercity-bus services, and to promote interactions between bus terminals and neighboring land uses. The intercity-bus transfer centers can make passengers transfer smoothly between intercity-bus and other transport modes conveniently and rapidly by integrating the routes, frequency and timetable of all the modes. It can be operated by one or several bus companies. This study assesses the possible types and locations of intercity-bus transfer centers in Kaohsiung metropolitan area in accordance with local traffic conditions and intercity bus operations. Moreover, this study proposes the functions and development schedule of the transfer centers with two-phase evaluation process. It is suggested that a complete set of intercity bus transfer system comprises multiple transfer centers in the North, Central, South and East of Kaohsiung metropolitan area in which the transfer centers of Kaohsiung train station, Nantsu, Chienchun are those scheduled to phase 1 development due to considerations of their greater urgency and feasibility. |
