| Summary | Green Island faces the Pacific ocean on the east of Taiwan. It is about 18 knots from Taitung. The residents on this island engage in agriculture, fishery and animal husbandry. Green Island is very far away from Taiwan, so the public constructions are far behind those other places in Taiwan, and the transport is also inconvenient. Hence, most of the residents in this island immigrate to other places. Recently, domestic tourism has boomed. With its natural beauty Green Island attracts lot of tourists, but the transport system in Green Island is not sound enough, it has become one of the major problem to the development of this island. For this reason, the research about the sea and air transport of Green Island must be done immediately. According to the results of our research, in the transportation market, sea transport is the main transportation between Taitung and Green Island, and air transport is the second choice. In the sea transport improvement and development, the capacity of ships in Green Island is quite enough, but the harbor environment is not comfortable. This environment has to be improved by building wharves and arrival/departure area. So that, it can provide a comfortable place for tourists. In air transport, the passenger load is not high, and so the transport capacity is enough to meet the demand, Yet the Green Island airport facilities are difficult to improve. A short-term option would be the use of helicopters with the improvement of flight safety, while a long-term solution would be to take option 1-B, that is, to increase airport pavement strength and enlarge runway net obstacle-free space. |
