Summary This research made reference to the energy conservation and carbon reduction strategies promoted by advanced countries, which had had effective results; it focused on educating and training drivers regarding their driving behaviors to implement the energy conservation and carbon reduction policy for the transportation sector, a policy which was promoted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The research subjects were bus drivers. With the help of the technology that detected these drivers’driving behaviors, the factors that contributed to fuel consumption and dangerous behaviors were found. The energy-saving and safe driving behaviors of drivers were established via the mechanism of behavior feedback course. The results of the research conducted in the previous two years had been continued here through cooperation with the Taoyuan Bus Company, Ltd. Using professional drivers of inter-city buses and shuttles for tourist routes in the mountains as research subjects, data on the natural driving behavior of 60 drivers was collected. This year we made reference to relevant researches conducted in foreign countries on energy-saving driving such as those on FIAT and TOYOTA to develop an evaluation mechanism based on 5 energy-saving and safety indicators, through which a chart with indicators for individual drivers was generated. This chart was used to educate and train the drivers individually before they drove, as well as to provide drivers with recommendations for improving their driving behaviors. The results of this research showed that the overall energy saving benefits (fuel efficiency) increased by 11.6% after the training, which is four times the energy saving benefit compared with the 2011 project, whose education and training was lecture-based. The results of this research can help bus companies manage their drivers’ driving behaviors and prevent accidents and assist the motor vehicle administration sector in advancing its driving training.
