Summary | Limited by its geographic conditions, the eastern area of Taiwan was insufficiently developed on transportation infrastructure. In addition, since the supply of public transportation service cannot meet the current demand, the integration of rail and bus service is especially important for passengers. The basic concept of this study will follow the transportation policy of the Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD), which emphasizes promoting a green transport environment for eastern Taiwan. The policy calls for the railway as the primary transportation system, the highway as the auxiliary system, and the improvement of integration between each other. The purpose of this study will comprehensively analyze the constraints and issues for the development of public transportation and propose the related strategies for upgrading the service quality at public transport interchanges and creating a more sustainable environment. The achievements of this study include the following: Data collection and demand survey on intermodal passenger transportation in eastern Taiwan. Status review and consensus building of vision for intermodal passenger transportation in eastern Taiwan. Feasibility analysis and strategy development for rail transport interchanges in eastern Taiwan. Case study and formulation of integration mechanism for providing sound intermodal passenger transportation services in eastern Taiwan. |
