Summary | Ports are places for loading and unloading cargoes from vessels. Port planning engineers have to evaluate the supply and demand specifically to decide the scale of the port. The capacity analysis of a port is the major function of port supply side analysis. Port capacity is the capability of a port which provide existing facilities and equipment for carriers and shippers. There are lots of factors which affects port capacity, such as vessels type, quay structure, loading/unloading facilities, yard facilities, operational way, equipment on duty time, and the demand of carriers and/or shippers, etc. By collecting and analyzing the throughput and the aforementioned influencing factors of existing ports in Taiwan, this study aims to develop the methodology of analyzing and estimating port capacity, setting up a standard to evaluate the operating capacity of international and domestic ports in Taiwan. In addition, all the ports planning-related parties can easily evaluate the supply of the ports in Taiwan by the model developed in this study. |
