Summary | Published in April 2004 IOT SERIAL No. 93-68-7101, 154pp. In this paper, several major methods for studying wave groups and their main parameters for describing wave groupiness were examined and then analyzed and compared on the basis of field typhoon wave data at Hwa-Lien Harbor from statistical characteristics of both group height and group length parameters. The results showed that the groupiness of typhoon waves had no relationship with the wave height and the wave period, which meant that the wave group phenomenon of frequent occurrence, but might be not obvious when the wave height or the wave period is larger. There is a probability that the wave group might appear when the wave height or period was smaller. When using group height parameters to measure the wave groupiness, then the wave run length of group length parameter might be not larger when the group height parameters were larger, but the group height parameters were larger when the wave run length of group length parameter was larger. There was a difference between the group height and the group length parameters. Furthermore, the effect of typhoon types such as path, strength and moving speed on wave groupiness were not obvious, but the wave groupiness was slightly larger for some typhoon types. |
