| Summary | In consideration of the fact that Rail Transportation System is more efficient and has less impact on environment, it is essential to promote rail transportation in Taiwan for its limited land and high population density. In order to accommodate the development of rail transportation, there is a need to establish systematic methodology and tools to analyze its capacity, and compile “Rail Capacity Manual” as the reference for the planning, designing, and operation stages. The Institute of Transportation (IOT) has been undertaking the project - “Capacity Analysis of Rail Transportation Systems and Its Applications” since 2006. In this year (the second year) of the project, the main results are the completion of education and training for the rail capacity software, and the correction for the software according to users’ feedbacks. Furthermore, the relationship between rail capacity and service quality is explained, and the minimum acceptable level of service for current Taiwan Railway passengers is investigated through a questionnaire survey. Finally, the study organizes the results of the past researches to compile the first two chapters of “Rail Capacity Manual”, including “Foundations of Rail Capacity” and “Intercity Railway System – Type I Model”. |
