Summary | Kaohsiung Harbor is a major container hub, and the others (Keelung and Taichung harbors) are regional ones in Taiwan, the container shipping carriers’ demands of calling have shifted among those ports for the reasons of fast change on global shipping operating environment. In the future, the connectivity of shipping routes and collection of cargo-resource would transfer out of Taiwan ports those would become regional ones, and there are no more advantageous competitive owned by Taiwan ports. To avoid to be an inferior position, this project focuses on Taiwan ports’ operational plans and comprehends the demand of calling port and potential subjects of international container shipping carriers, and then summed up and concluded the Taiwan port vulnerabilities. Finally, we would draw up the adaptive capacity which similar to operational strategies for Taiwan ports’ industries. The research scopes are limited to terminal operations in harbor for port vulerability, and to the strategies of port and terminal developments for adaptiveness. This future observation may provide a basis for evaluating container port development and competitiveness when port strategies are the major concerns and faced on multiple impacts in Taiwanese shipping and terminal industries.
Benefits of Research Results: The result can be used for policy-making to support TIPC reaching the government’s policy objectives and displaying its operating efficiency. Current Situation in Application: MOTC or the Maritime and Port Bureau can refer to the results for supervising, governing and evaluating the performance of TIPC. TIPC can also consult it for its business operation. |
