Summary | To meet the needs of different types of railway system construction in Taiwan, the IOT has carried out a series of research projects on rail capacity, and has completed a rail capacity analysis model and software for both traditional regional railways and metro rapid transit systems. However, following the government's vision, light rail transit systems will be planned and promoted in some metropolitan areas in the Forward-Looking Infrastructure Development Program. Thus, capacity analysis and application research for light rail transit systems will be conducted. This year's research has constructed a rail capacity and reliability analysis model for continuous sections of Type A and B right-of-way, and developed software to evaluate rail capacity and reliability. According to the case study results, this study has found that rail capacity is determined by the bottlenecksof a route, and the maximum intersection signal cycle is the main factor which affects rail capacity ofcontinuous sections. In addition, signal offset will not affect rail capacity, but it will affect travel time. Finally, this research carried out education and training to promote these rail capacity research results. Moreover, the results have been compiled into the “Taiwan Rail Capacity Manual - Light Rail Transit Systems (Type A and B Right-of-Way)”, which can be used for capacity analysis, education, and decisionmaking support for railway projects by industry, government, academia, and research institutes. |
