Summary Taiwan is located at the subtropical monsoon area under the threats of nature disasters such as earthquake, typhoon, torrential rains, and debris flow. Since the highway system is the most important channel of communication and transportation for rescue mission in the aftermath of major disasters, it is essential to evaluate the emergency repairing strategy on basis of the disaster types, damage degrees, environment, importance of highway, and the rescue resources. Therefore, the study on fast reconstruction and repair technique for highway facilities becomes substantial among the issues of hazard mitigation. This research aims to collect and integrate the domestic and foreign information regarding the techniques for fast reconstruction and repair of highway facilities, including analyzing the damage causes and pattern of highway facilities such as bridge, tunnel, slope, road pavement, and so on. This study goes further to investigate container stacking method, tube temporal road method, steel plate temporal road method, and temporal bridge method, and to devise new methods for fast reconstruction and repair of highway facilities. In addition, the strategies for fast reconstruction and repair of highway facilities are proposed, and the demonstration plans are designed and provided as well.
