Summary In order to accommodate the needs for developing various rail transportations, the Institute of Transportation carried out a series of research projects. These projects have developed models and software to analyze rail capacity for conventional railway systems. However, the capacity model for continuous rail sections has only been applied to double-track railway. Thus, the Institute of Transportation launched the two-year project Development of Capacity Model for Continuous Single-Track Sections to compensate for that.
The project has developed a rail capacity model for continuous single-track sections last year. To lower the threshold of applying this model and enhance the efficiency of rail capacity calculation, the second-year research computerizes the model into a new feature of the Conventional Railway Capacity Software. Moreover, this study adds an additional function tocustomize signal close-in times so that the software will be more usable in different situations, such as lack of parameters at the planning stage of railway system. Finally, this research shows the applicability of the software in several cases. The results of the cases can serve as references for future planning
