Summary | After the development of the main products of computers, communications, and consumer electronics (3C), the fourth product (4th C) used in automobile electronic products is becoming amazing rising superstar under the cooperation of industry, government, and academic sectors. The integration and application of information platforms of on-board-units (OBU) are paid extremely close attention to in this new development area by government and industries. Meanwhile, it is a common focal point of intelligent transportation system (ITS)-related, Telematics, and information societies. Via the rapid development of communication and service, the development of internet-ITS becomes more mature day after day. Mobile and hand-held communication devices would be useful tools to provide the ITS services such as instant traffic information via the integration of Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments on OBUs. This can provide the car driver a mobile digital living space to enjoy the instant information without losing connectivity when he/she leaves the office. The government also vigorously arranges delivering the related instant traffic information and ITS services to customers via OBUs. They want to bring more chances for relative industrial companies to create income from these kinds of new services. Moreover, it can bring the domestic ITS-related and added-value applications of instant traffic information. Therefore, this research project mainly focuses on handling wireless communications, OBUs, wireless internet surfing, traffic information platforms, and value-added instant traffic information portals for customers, etc. It is the hope to erect the value-chain of traffic information and help the hardware/software companies, commercial affairs and information providers. We hope to create a sustainable development for ITS-related industries and new services on this industrial chain. Subsequently, our research will be separated into four periods for execution. The first year revisits, plans and designs the development of the information platform of Telematics and ITS-related services with a well developed structure system. Some of the basic communicational tests will be performed to see all of the possible effects under heterogeneous communicational systems. The second year is planned to erect the prototype of the information platform, implement the integration test of experimental laboratories, study the value-added chain of traffic information, and the ITS-related problems met by industrial companies. The third year will execute real-time testing on a wireless network and introduce the value-added mechanism to provide the instant traffic information. The fourth year will cooperate with the development of a telecommunication network project to give a demonstrative testing program to obtain the verification and validation of all possible functions and scope of views from the beginning of this project. We hope to erect a new value-chain and new services style of the realization and new instant traffic information to customers via an OBU for all of possible applications on this project. |
