Summary | The comprehensive transportation planning of the Taiwan region has been our (Institute of Transportation, IOT) focus for many years. The intercity transportation demand model was completed in 2008 to provide an analytical tool for anticipating and assessing the demand for intercity transportation and evaluating intercity transportation development while considering cocompetition principles, sustainability and sensitivity to different strategies and policies.
Considering the recent rapid change in the economic environment, future transportation planning in the Taiwan region will be examined and updated based on conclusions drawn every five years using the data collected from yearly surveys and research. The constant monitoring of uncertainty to refine the methodology will optimize the functionality and the predictive capability of the transportation planning model for the Taiwan region. This study is a three-year plan that attempts to monitor and amend the 4th Taiwan Intercity Transportation System Demand Model based on preparatory studies performed in 2009 and 2010. With the previous two years of study as a foundation, the work of the 3rd year will be to examine and amend the model and to perform demand and supply analysis for different means of transportation and sustainability analysis in order to provide recommendations on the future development of transportation systems and to perform analysis of the political sensitivity and effectiveness of important issues in order to provide suggestions for the development and management of intercity transportation. The major results of this year include: Examining and amending the "Taiwan Intercity Transportation System Demand Model 2013". Conducting traffic volume survey for model verification. Collecting the import and export cargo data from Trade-Van Information Service Company and analyzing growing trends. Modifying the import and export cargo OD matrices based on the import and export cargo data from Trade-Van Information Service Company, the survey report on motor vehicle freight traffic, and the second year’s supplementary survey on container yards. Predicting future demand and performing demand and supply analysis and assessment for intercity transportation. Completing analysis of the political sensitivity and effectiveness for important issues. Performing sustainability analysis to provide suggestions for the development of the intercity transportation. |
