| Summary | Because of the increase of GDP and the implementation of (taking two days off per week), people are paying more attention and time on recreation activities. Therefore, the government has decided to develop tourism as one of the most important industry in Taiwan. The eastern area, the only area without severe industrial pollution in Taiwan, has the greatest asset in this respect however, its low accessibility has been affecting its development. Hence, improving the accessibility of the eastern area is important in achieving the goal. The IOT has conducted a series of studies on the eastern area, i.e., (Travel Characteristics Survey in Eastern Area), (Estimate of the Location for Industry Development on Eastern Area), and (Conceptual Planning of an Integrated Transportation Systems in the Eastern Area of Taiwan) ten years ago. Now the IOT conducted the study again based on the structures of the previous studies. As well, the recent social-economic development of the eastern area is considered for the overall planning. This study can serve as a reference for related governmental institute. |
