Summary | Published in June 2005 Real-time traffic information service is an important sector of ITS deployment, and is also the technology with most contact of the public. Therefore, establishing real-time traffic information service is vital in accomplishing the goals of ITS. In Taiwan's ITS development, real-time traffic information service is relatively earlier developed and more mature technology. With the M.O.T.C’s endeavors, a variety of several information services are already available in daily life. In 2003, the project on “Planning and Establishment of Real-Time Transportation Information Service in Land, Air, and Marine Terminals” focused on building an overall traffic information center to provide land, air, and marine transportation information. The center gathers international and domestic flight information, inter-island ferry information, and roadway traffic information. The traffic information center also provides a unitary contact window for the public with convenient traffic information, uniform data format, and data access control, to manage the overall traffic information. This research follows the 2003 project’s outcomes and focuses on the operation and maintenance of the national traffic information center. In order to ensure the information's credibility and completeness, we assist 20 highway transportation service operators to update their data into the system through Internet. Further data usage such as value-added applications could also be considered to promote the development of traffic information services and related industries. We have also finished the survey of marine transportation service operators, the building of database system's maintenance plan and the adjustment of the preliminary system. |
