Summary | After the opening of scheduled freeway bus services in Taiwan, the demand for public transport has stopped its trend of declining and begun to rise. In the supply side, however, because competition has been introduced and market has been divided, the operation performance of most of the bus companies have been further deteriorated. Among the five aspects of service quality evaluation, i.e., tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and sympathy, there is still difference between passengers’ expectation and perception. Besides, there are other relevant social-economic benefits, including accessibility, convenience, economy, and comfort. Our suggestions on the deregulation policy and the related screening procedures are as follows: A complete deregulation should be adopted in the long run so that any operator who can find a niche market will be able to provide service for passengers. As to the currently adopted partial deregulation, it should be considered as a transitional practice. Last but not least, this study makes comments in response to the relevant improvement suggestions raised by domain scholars and governing authorities. |
