Summary | The National Freeway No. 5, which is also known as the Taipei-Yilan freeway, is opened to traffic in June2006. This is the first time that the national highway network extended to the eastern Taiwan. The freeway aims at connecting the western and eastern Taiwan that is successfully proved by cutting the travel time from more than two hours to just thirty minutes. With this freeway the east-west transportation will step into a new era, which means people will change their travel behavior and choose different modes of transport, also effect the whole transportation system of the Freeway No. 5 corridor. In order to understand and analyze the influence of the Freeway No. 5 on the system, this project conducts traffic survey in the National Freeway No. 5 corridor as follows: Screenline in the Freeway No. 5 corridor, including Freeway No. 5 and main arterial roads OD questionnaire survey at all screenline survey locations Vehicle occupancy survey at all screenline survey locations and Collection and analyses of the patronage data from Taiwan Railway Administration. By conducting the above traffic survey, the fundamental data of the National Freeway No. 5 corridor are collected. With the survey data the influence of the Freeway No. 5 on the system can be analyzed, meanwhile the data also can serve as useful references. |
