After forming a department that deals with transportation for major cities and counties in Taiwan, the local government is facing the requests from the public to deploy Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to solve transportation problems. To avoid difficulties in integrating ITS subsystems, the local officials constantly seek for an ultimate solution. The regional ITS system architecture proposed by the Institute of Transportation (IOT) will be the solution for local transportation demands and guidelines for regional ITS projects deployment.

This project follows the prior studies on “Developing the ITS Master Plan for Taiwan” and “Developing ITS System Architecture in Taiwan” to further investigate and improve the results. To meet the demands from intercity and metropolitan transportation users, this project aims to increase the involvement of the ITS stakeholders so that a broader aspect on ITS deployment could be obtained. This project also intends to meet practical needs from various local officials and familiarize them with the ITS system architecture both regionally and nationally.

This project develops six regional ITS architectures for Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, eastern area, rural area and intercity transportation. The three metropolitan area architectures focus on ATMS, ATIS, and APTS. Besides, for intercity transportation, CVOS also plays an important role. For eastern and rural areas, EMS is vital.
