Summary | The Kaohsiung region is the major area of industrial development in the south of the nation. The Kaohsiung administrative area not only includes fully-functional sea & air port infrastructure, but also contains various potential benefits which could attract international companies to set up their businesses here. According to the trend study of the economic, social and population development, it could be learned that the future condition would possibly lead to a social environment of inadequate working populations, and due to that reason, the regional long-term development between northern and southern cities could run into a vicious cycle. Furthermore, the current highway services and transport construction access to the Kaohsiung region still require further progress and comprehensive development. These issues and impacts have indirectly become part of the difficulties to the Kaohsiung integrated development actions. Therefore, depending on several opportunities which have occurred recently, such as the tide of Taiwanese businesses returning to their own country, the integration of municipalities and national land use planning and development, etc., the linking construction to enhance the accessibility of highway systems, upgrade the facilities of the Kaohsiung sea port and the legislated benefit policies for importing and exporting could efficiently attract national and international business investment and also increase the employment ratio in the Kaohsiung region. Eventually, this research aims to propose an innovative integrated transportation supply strategy to assist the nation to sustainably develop and increase its international competitiveness. |
