Intelligent transportation system (ITS) utilizes relevant advanced technologies, such as information, communication, control, vehicle and machinery in various kinds of transportation systems, to enable the existing but limited transportation facilities to bring about the greatest utility and efficiency. That is, advanced technologies will be used to promote the transportation system
meanwhile, basic demands will also be considered. However, because of the limitations of human behavior, ability, instinct and knowledge, a human-machine interface (HMI) is essential in bringing about the due function of ITS relevant systems, facilities or machines, and reducing the psychology and physiological pressure of the users while using these systems, facilities or machines at the same time, with the result that can achieve the security, efficiency and comfortable transportation purpose.

Because of the popular use of ITS there will be more and more advanced systems, facilities or machines to install on vehicles or along the roadside in the future, and therefore how to make a good interaction between drivers or other road-users with these system, facility or machines, via HMI development will be important during the development of ITS. This research sets out from a viewpoint about the human-factor engineering, collects and analyzes the domestic and international ITS HMI development, the psychology and physiological influence of the user. In accordance with ITS development focal point and demand in the future, this research would probe into the influence of ITS development and provide the ITS HMI deployment guidelines to serve as a basic reference for the design of ITS relevant systems, facilities or machines.
