Summary In Taiwan, most counties and cities have already deployed the Advanced Public Transportation System (APTS). The system can provide passengers with real-time bus information, such as the estimated arrival time and the title of the in-coming bus-stop, relieving the uncertainty and anxiety of passengers. In addition, it can help bus companies to simultaneously monitor their vehicles' locations and driver behaviors. Moreover, the information acquired from the APTS can be applied by the government to supervise the operation of bus companies, resulting in reducing manpower for the evaluation of bus service quality and the audit of operation subsidization. It is also beneficial for the government to realize the operation condition of bus companies in order to make more appropriate policies and implement more efficient administration measures.
This project is the second phase of a two-year plan. In the first phase, the architecture of the APTS Management Information System for Government Authorities was planned and core modules of this system were developed. In the second  phase, the major tasks include conducting demonstration programs with Taichung City Government and Kinmen County Government  to evaluate the system performance, proposing a promotion plan for core modules of this system, and  launching on-job training workshops and a know-how transferring campaign.
The outcomes of this project can be used as a reference for the government authorities which want to develop a similar system to help them to properly conduct their duties required by the relevant regulations.
