APTS is a major task force for intelligent transportation system of the governments world wide. To ensure successful implementation of APTS, it is necessary to promote advanced pre-trip bus traveler information systems. Currently in Taiwan, a few bus pre-trip information systems are in operation and can only provide users with the information related to the system builders. Therefore, bus users can not get complete and enough information through current pre-trip information systems before beginning their trips. An Advanced Pre-Trip Bus Travelers Information Decision Support System is developed in this study. This DSS can contribute to the improvement of service level by providing their users with information on bus routes, schedules, fares, alternative trip plans, and opportunities around bus stops or stations. It is interesting to know what kinds of information can change users’ attitude of using public transportation system (especially bus systems), under the development of APTS. The database of the proposed DSS includes routes, schedules, fares, and real time problem to locations of all highway bus systems as well as city bus systems in Taiwan. Users can easily use this DSS via Internet or handset wireless telephone systems to get their wanted information by inputting their origins and destinations.
