Summary | This research is the third year of a 3-year (2021–2023) project. In addition to building on the results of previous research and developing traffic conflict analysis tools, conducting annual pilot tests to verify the maturity and limitations of relevant technologies, the project collaborated with local governments to promote their application through analysis of accident-prone locations. This year, the project collaborated with Highway Bureau of MOTC, Department of Transportation of Taoyuan City Government, and Bureau of Transportation of Tainan City Government to conduct two pilot tests on advanced analysis of opportunity left-turn conflicts and pedestrian-vehicle conflicts at 14 intersections. The project also analyzed four high-risk intersections located at Yilan County, Taoyuan City and Yunlin County. The advanced analysis of opportunity for left turn analysis included conflicts such as same-direction straight-through collisions caused by lane changes when left-turning vehicles stop, rear-end collisions from oncoming vehicles decelerating, and left-turn collisions from simultaneous turns. Pedestrian-vehicle conflict analysis focused on incidents involving vehicles and crossing pedestrians, assessing turning vehicles’ angle at pedestrian crossings and yielding behavior. Additionally, the project also continued to optimize relevant analysis technologies, improving detection model stability and reducing angle errors for long vehicles. Enhancements to the SORT tracking mechanism reduced tracking issues. The project also upgraded the traffic conflict analysis software, improved accuracy, readability, and functionality of the user interface |
