Summary | ABSTRACT: This research examined the practicability of collecting traffic information by means of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technique, implemented preliminary benefit-cost analysis and proposed corresponding field test project in the first year. Following the former achievements, applicable RFID facilities are installed on the field during this year. The traffic information including flow rate, occupancy, time mean speed, travel time, vehicle classification and stop-vehicle are collected and compared to the corresponding value recorded by cameras and evaluated manually. By verifying the accuracy in different test scenarios, the performance of RFID technique applied in traffic information collection is well-examined and corresponding policies and supplement strategies of implementation are proposed. The main research topics include the followings: (1) To formulate the RFID field test system including target, technique(equipments and facilities), procedure, members and scope (2) To have the RFID field test system strictly designed (3)To conduct laboratory test of the RFID field test system (4) To set up and operate the RFID field test system (5) To maintain the RFID field test system and collect traffic information (6) To evaluate and examine the performance of RFID field test system (7) To analyze the directions, trend, market, issues and development of standards of RFID technique applied in transportation (8) To propose corresponding policies and supplement strategies of implementation (9) To hold the mid-term and final symposiums. |
