Summary | The base map of the latest version of digital road network atlas released by Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) is about six to thirteen years ago. Therefore, satellite images were investigated in this project to evaluate their feasibility in this particular application. Results show that satellite images are low cost and have higher data acquisition frequency, compared to the traditional aerial photo process, in producing the digital road network atlas. The following aspects were investigated : (1) Characteristics of SPOT satellite images, (2) Projection transformation between WGS84 and TM2, where TM2 is mainly used in Taiwan area, (3) SPOT satellite image processing, such as image enhancement, image analysis, pattern recognition, etc., (4) Overlaying vector digital road network over SPOT raster images, (5) Proposing procedures and consideration to use satellite images in production of digital road network atlas. |
