Summary Since Taiwan is densely populated, it is essential to introduce the concept of green transportation at the early stage of urban planning in order to restrict the unnecessary expansion of urban boundaries, to reduce the government budget expenditure, to facilitate the effective utilization of land resources, and to increase the comfort of the living environment. This study aims to develop a concept of introducing “green transportation oriented development” into the urban development process and provide a reference for integrating green transportation and land use planning to urban planners.

This research is a two-year project. The main purposes of this year (the second year) is, first, to review the urban planning model proposed in the first year and then to propose green transportation planning guidelines and an operational handbook for green transportation oriented planning. The results include: first, to revise the green transportation planning model and guidelines. Second, to investigate the applicability of the revised model and guidelines by conducting two case studies. Finally, to propose the operational handbook.

Based on the results of this year and the validity for future applications, three suggestions are proposed: first, the green transportation model should be integrated with the urban planning and design procedure. Second, to propose performance measurement indices of green transportation as an evaluation tool for urban planning. Finally, to continuously extend the case studies on the integration of the green transportation system and land use planning and promote the operational handbook.
