Summary To support and implement the traffic information services sharing, this project surveys the different ways of traffic information collection for current and future use, subsequently reviewing the overall related issues. The project proposes the traffic information services sharing mechanism to provide a reference for the development of infrastructures for traffic information clouds. With the mechanism, it hopes to bring intelligent traffic information service (ITIS) into being, encourage value-added application of this service among private businesses, provide road users real-time and reliable traffic information, and promote the development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and telematics industry. The project has met the following objectives: (1) To implement the definition of road section and the code of road section; (2) to propose the principles of choosing traffic information collection techniques and fusion mechanisms, also proposing a field investigation on the information gap (spatial and time); (3) to establish the guidelines for traffic information collection techniques (VD/EVP/GVP/CVP), and evaluate the feasibility of the management of traffic information collection and publication for various purposes; and (4) to develop feasibility cooperation (information gathering, information providing, operation and maintenance) models for different techniques of traffic information collection (VD/EVP/GVP/CVP), which can be applied in both the public and private sectors.
