Summary | Published in May 2004 IOT SERIAL No. 93-81-4185, 218 pp. Geographic Information System (GIS) incorporates concepts of computer-aided graphics and relational database, and adopts them in spatial database management. GIS is the core of Bus Route Information Management System, which uses ArcView 8.3, a GIS software product from ESRI. ArcView provides a graphical interface to simplify bus route management and helps to improve customers’ satisfaction. Two major functions were developed for this system: 1.Maintenance and Management on General Operation Data, which allows staff to select bus routes, stops, or create/edit/delete symbols by simply clicking or searching on the map. 2.Bus Route Analysis, which provides various analysis reports as references and bases to critical decision-making. Information generated from these reports includes basic route data, circuity, concentration, overlapping, and accessibility. Population being served, as well as names and numbers of transportation operation sites are also available for a particular bus stop while making analysis. |
