| Summary | The purpose to set up a transportation information center is to(1) introduce new technologies and ideas in the area of transportation, (2) create an information sharing or switching mechanism for planning and decision-making purposes, and (3) provide real time traffic information to the general public. This center provides information from Institute of Transportation (IOT) and other countries and it is operated under the Internet and World Wide Web(WWW) protocol. Information provided includes(1) introduction of Institute of Transportation, (2)publication catalog of Institute of Transportation,(3) Transportation policy white book,(4) download area (including research final reports, various research data files, geographic data files, and computer modules),(5) statistical trend in transport in Taiwan,(6) abstract of transportation researches in Taiwan area,(7) transportation Internet links(include government, organizations. universities , mailing list servers, newsgroups, conference information), and(8) Internet search engines. In the future, additional applications will be developed, such as the real time traffic information system, the Internet library information system, the national land information system, and the Internet geographic information system for transportation.
