| Summary | The railway and highway systems are not only intimately connected with people’s lives, but they also influence national economic development significantly. They are essential infrastructure to keep a country operating well. However, the risks of damage to the railway and highway systems are increasing with the severe impact of climate change. Conducting investigations on how climate change affects the vulnerability of the railway and highway systems and taking action to reduce the impact are very important.
Therefore, this project referenced domestic and international studies and experiences on vulnerability caused by climate change to establish vulnerability indices for railway and highway systems in the face of climate change and mapped hotspots of higher vulnerability. Next, this project identified the critical issues of adaptation to climate change for railway and highway systems adaptation and determined a strategic direction. Finally, this project proposed research topics and important items related to climate change adaptation for the next five years. The results of this project can provide a good base for the planning of related adaptation measures and research by the authorities of railway and highway systems. |
