Summary | To allow a smooth implementation of “The demonstration of a bike road network in the eastern area” held by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications(MOTC), the Institute of Transportation has conducted a comprehensive two-year project, “The planning of a bicycle network system for the eastern region”, since 2009. The objects of this project include: 1.The layout of the Eastern region bike lane network. 2. Integrated service and information system establishment. 3. Development of regulations and design criteria for bike lane system planning. 4. Specific revision suggestions for the current bicycle laws and regulations. The project of 2009 has completed the planning of a feasible bike lane (way) network, the reference manual on planning and design for bike lane (way) facilities (version 1.0), the establishment of an information system, and the bicycle entire journey service planning for the five model routes. The project of 2010 continues to process the second version of the "planning and design reference manual for bike lane (way) facilities", the specific revision suggestions for the current bicycle laws and regulations, and the improvement of the bicycle tour information system, and provides a bicycle entire journey service plan for the model route in 2010. To establish a more effective platform to promote the SLOHAS (Slow Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) tour in Taiwan, this project also provides an overview of promoting an island-round bike way system plan in Taiwan, which helps the government to bring out a state of energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and sustainable transportation. The results of this project of 2010 include: 1.Review and adjustment of the Eastern region bike lane (way) network plan 2. Completion of the new version of the reference manual on planning and design for bike lane (way) facilities (version 2.0). 3. Development of regulations and design criteria for bike lane system planning 4. Collection and establishment of the bike lane (way) network inventory data in the Eastern region and technical service transferring 5. The planning of the model routes and bicycle entire journey service in 2010. 6. Deliberation of the economic efficiency and the energy conservation and carbon reduction method. It can also assist the government to promote a bike lane (way) network plan in the Western region. In addition, this project will provide tourists with complete information about the Eastern region bike lane system before they leave for a trip. |
