Summary | Published in March 2003 IOT SERIAL No.92-23-740,180pp. Taiwan government has tried hard to set up a “National Geographic Information Systems (NGIS)” in the last decade to integrate various databases from different government organizations. This promotion enhances government organizations’ their daily operations greatly. However, most NGIS are emphasized on land-based applications. Marine based GIS applications are rarely found. The goal of this project is to build a bathymetric database around Taipei Harbor and the Internet query system. The GIS database includes coastlines, contour lines and depth points. The Internet query system are designed to obtain the information about the seabed terrain trend, water depths and areas of the designated polygons. Sources of the bathymetric and coastlines data are digitized from 1:50,000 scale maps and collected from Harbor Research Institute, Taiwan Provincial Government. After maps are merged into the GIS software, the bathymetric data can then be integrated with oceanographic data and queried in GIS software and browsed on the Internet. This Internet browser is based on vector structure. |
