Summary | Owing to sea transport conveying over ninety percent of international trades, international logistics operations heavily rely on sea transport. International enterprises demand efficient and high quality distribution of their emerchandise, therefore container shipping companies are all making efforts to improve their international logistics services. One of the key elements is to establish a comprehensive container transport information system to help enterprises integrating resources. An integrated maritime transport information platform is essential in Taiwan. Although there are MT-Net and TradeVvan systems, these two systems cannot work together due to lack of integration planning. This study focuses on investigating how to build up an integrated maritime transport information system. This system , serving as an intelligent container transport logistics system will enhance the global logistics competitiveness of Taiwan. Considerable progress has been made in many Asian counties in building up their domestic integrated maritime transport information system., Taiwan is compelled to establish a comprehensive system. To achieve the goal, few important tasks need to be done, including: suggesting the Executive Yuan to facilitate integration issues establishing a maritime and container information data bank maintained by government revising related laws and regulations to coordinate documentation forms as well as to manage empty containers promoting information exchange of maritime and containers with other Asian nations, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Japan, and China and participating in the global forum on cross- countries integration of maritime and container information systems. |
